Nicolas Ivanoff

In 2014 Nicolas Ivanoff emerged as one of the top pilots in the field with two victories in the final three races. This saw him claim a career-best fourth place overall. He was unable to follow this up in 2015 and had a disappointing season. Red Bull Air Race fans around the world had long admired the Frenchman’s elegant style in the sky and ability to make the most out of tight turns.A Corsican with Russian and Greek heritage, Ivanoff has always been an enigma able to win races or podiums at times but struggle at others. He takes an artistic approach to flying, comparing it to „painting in the sky“. Ivanoff became an aerobatic pilot in 1990 after having spent most of his adult life as a flight instructor at Corsica’s famous ‚Corse Voltige‘ flying school. He joined the French Aerobatic Team seven years later and was a member of the French team that won the World Championships in Toulouse in 2000. In 2004 he took second place at the French Unlimited Aerobatics Championship.

Ivanoff’s raceplane is often seen with new modifications as the team experiment with aerodynamic changes. Fascinated by technology and minute detail, the Frenchman has an enviable mix of style and substance. A keen interest in motor racing and great instinct on the track help Ivanoff to be the one to keep an eye on at every race.
